Doppelbock, or “double bock,” is a strong, dark German lager whose roots stretch back as far as the 17th century. The earliest example was designed with a specific purpose in mind – sustenance for fasting monks. Liquid bread. The beer that is regarded as the archetype of the style was called “Salvator,” brewed by the Paulaner monks in Munich. Consequently, it has become customary for brewers to utilize the “-ator” suffix when naming their own versions of the style. Celebrator, Optimator, Troegenator, etc. And now Embiggenator, which is a tribute to both the original Doppelbock and Jebediah Springfield, fictional founder of the hometown of Homer J. Simpson.
